The Dual Head Emergency Light (BY-Z4430U) is a self-contained LED unit that runs a measured 120 minutes on its own battery, so it clears the two-hour tier Ontario asks of high buildings.

What are the two types of emergency lighting?
Self-contained and centrally supplied. This is the self-contained kind, which the code calls unit equipment: battery, charger, transfer circuit and both lamp heads in one enclosure. Nothing outside the box has to survive for it to come on. A central system feeds many heads from one battery room, cheaper at scale but the wiring sits in the fire's path. OBC 3.2.7.4(2) requires self-contained units to conform to CSA C22.2 No. 141, and this one is listed to it.
Does it drive remote heads?
No. The BY-Z4430U has no remote output, and the sheet lists its maximum remote load as none. If you need extra heads partway down a corridor, use a steel remote-capable battery unit, which carries a wattage budget for it. Specify this one where its own two heads cover the space.
How long does it stay lit?
120 minutes, and the photometry backs it up. The 3.6V 1200mAh battery holds 4.32 watt-hours, and the IES file measures the emergency draw at 1.7W, which leaves headroom past two hours. OBC 3.2.7.4 asks 2 hours in high buildings, 1 hour for Group B and retirement homes, 30 minutes everywhere else. This unit meets the top rung.
How high can you mount it?
10.4 feet, or 3.1 metres, per the manual. The photometry shows why. At 3.1m a head lays about 11 lux on the floor beneath it, and OBC 3.2.7.3 wants a 10 lux average at floor level with no point below 1 lux. Both heads rotate, so aim them along the path of travel.
What the installer needs to know
Flexible conduit only. Mount to a J-box or through the conduit flange, connect the battery once continuous AC is available, then charge 24 hours before testing. Keep it inside. The sheet rates it damp and the manual says indoor only, so read that as indoor damp, not a covered exterior wall.
