PIR Sensor Dimmer Switch

PIR motion sensor dimmer switch that wires as either a single-pole or a 3-way, so one part number covers both boxes.

Handles 600W incandescent or 200W dimmable LED and CFL at 120V/60Hz. The sensor reaches 26.25ft across a 140 degree field from a 3.94ft mounting height, with selectable delay, sensitivity and daylight thresholds.

Phase-cut dimming, overload and over-temperature protection, ETL listed to UL 1472, damp location rated, 2 year warranty.

Does it wire as a single-pole or a 3-way?

Both. The manual carries a full single-pole layout and two separate 3-way layouts, so the same switch covers a one-location box and a two-location stairwell or corridor.

In single-pole, four leads come out of the dimmer. Green lands on ground, black on the live wire from the breaker, red on the load, and the brown lead gets capped off with a wire nut. Nothing lands on neutral. For 3-way work, mark the common conductor at both boxes first, then tag Traveler 1 and Traveler 2 at each end.

Can it be set to manual-on instead of automatic?

Yes, with a long press of the power button. Automatic detection flashes the indicator white twice, so lights come up on their own. Manual control flashes red twice: lights come on only when somebody presses the button, and the sensor still turns them off.

That second mode is what specifiers mean by a vacancy setting. Ten seconds after any manual on or off, the sensor picks up again.

How far does the sensor reach, and can you tune it?

26.25ft across a 140 degree field, mounted at 3.94ft. Three settings adjust from the faceplate, each confirmed by an indicator colour.

Hold time runs 1, 5 or 15 minutes. The daylight threshold runs 50, 100 or 200 lux, so lights stay off in a room that already has daylight. Sensitivity runs low, medium or high. Out of the box: automatic detection, high sensitivity, high lux, 1 minute. You can also set minimum and maximum brightness, which stops dimmable lamps flickering at the bottom of their range.

What can you put on it?

Dimmable LED, dimmable CFL, incandescent and halogen lamps only, per the manual. Keep CFL under five lamps per switch, and don't mix lamp types on one dimmer.

The manual also rules out controlling a receptacle, a motor-operated appliance or a transformer-supplied appliance.
