The Premium Dimmer Switch (VO-DIM-P-W200) is an LED compatible dimmer switch that wires in without a neutral, in single-pole or 3-way circuits. Digital circuit dimming carries 3-200W of dimmable LED, 15-600W incandescent, or 3-300W CFL. A vertical slider sets the level. A recessed adjuster wheel sets the bottom of the range, so small LED loads don't flicker. cETL listed to UL1472. Rated past 40,000 switching cycles. 2 year warranty.

Do you need a special dimmer switch for LED lights?

Usually, yes. An LED circuit draws a fraction of what the same fixtures pulled as incandescent, and a dimmer built around a 15W floor can leave a small LED load flickering, buzzing, or cutting out at the bottom of the slider. This one uses digital circuit technology built for dimming a wide range of dimmable LEDs, and it holds down to a 3W LED load.

How do you tell if a dimmer is LED compatible?

Check the load range at both ends. The maximum sets how many fixtures you can hang on the circuit. The minimum is what keeps a small circuit steady. VO-DIM-P-W200 is rated 3-200W for dimmable LED, 15-600W for incandescent, 3-300W for CFL under five lamps, and 3-300W for low voltage halogen on an electronic transformer. Note the LED figure. It's 200W, not the 600W headline, and that's the number to size an LED job against.

Single-pole or 3-way, from one device

One part number covers both. Wire it as a standalone single-pole dimmer, or as the dimming point in a 3-way circuit. One rule governs the 3-way case: only one dimmer is allowed in the circuit, so the second location takes a standard 3-way switch, never a second dimmer. On single-pole installs the red and white leads go unused and get capped with wire nuts.

Will it fit the boxes you're working with?

It's a live wire device, so there's no neutral to chase in the box. That helps on older retrofit work. In-wall mount, indoor only, rated 0°C to 40°C. The body measures 4.13 x 1.73 x 1.26 in, it fits most standard switch panels, and the large paddle keeps on and off separate from the dimming slider.
