What are the requirements for exit signage in Canada?
A Canadian exit sign has to be a green and white graphic symbol, not a red EXIT word. Ontario Building Code Art. 3.4.5.1(2) sets the colour to ISO 3864-1 and the symbol to ISO 7010: E001 exit left, E002 exit right, plus the 90 and 45-degree arrows. Internally illuminated signs must stay lit continuously. A sign is required where the exit serves a building over two storeys, an occupant load over 150, or a floor area with a fire escape in the required means of egress.
Do all exit signs have to be red?
No, and in Canada they can't be. Red lettering is the American convention. That's why this is a running man sign rather than an EXIT box. The CR-7124 ships with three pictograms, so the installer picks the direction at the door instead of ordering a part number per opening.
Where IP65 and 120-347V earn their keep
Parkades, loading docks, exterior canopies, car washes, unheated storage. IP65 means dust tight and protected against water jets, which is what separates this from an indoor sign in a damp housing. The input takes two wires: black to line, white to neutral, identical on a 347V commercial feed and a 120V branch circuit. No taps, no jumpers, no separate SKU per voltage.
Backup is 120 minutes, clearing the top tier of the Ontario duration ladder in Art. 3.2.7.4: two hours for high buildings, one hour for Group B and retirement homes, 30 minutes everywhere else. One sign covers all three.
What the manual rules out
Operating range is -20°C to 40°C, so an unheated northern loading bay needs a check against the low end. Don't mount it in a hazardous location or near gas or electric heaters, and keep cords off hot surfaces. Charge the battery 24 hours before first use, then press the test button: the battery LED comes on, the AC LED goes out. Wall, ceiling and end mounting all work through the knockouts.
