How long does an LED outdoor wall sconce last?
Fifty thousand hours, rated. Run dusk to dawn across an Ontario year and that's roughly 4,400 hours, so about 11 years to end of rated life. Votatec backs it for five. The driver carries 2.5kV surge protection as standard, which earns its keep on exterior circuits sharing a panel with motors, heaters or door openers.
Is an ETL wet location listing accepted in Canada?
Yes. The fixture carries the cETLus mark from Intertek, and the lowercase "c" is the part your inspector looks for. Intertek is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada, so cETLus is accepted by Canadian authorities having jurisdiction on the same footing as CSA. Location rating is Wet, the enclosure is IP65, and the operating range runs -40°C to 50°C.
How do you change the colour temperature?
There's a switch on the underside of the housing, out of sight once mounted. Pick 3000K, 4000K or 5000K before you fit it, or reach underneath afterward. 4000K is the brightest setting, tested at 1,689 lumens against 1,556 at 3000K and 1,624 at 5000K. Same fixture, same draw. Warm for residential entries, neutral for mixed-use frontage, cool for service doors.
What do you need to install one?
A junction box, and it isn't supplied. What ships with the fixture is the mounting unit, both sets of mounting screws and the wire nuts, with the green ground screw already fitted to the mounting plate. Two things the manual asks for that aren't in the carton: sealing tape and sealing glue. Votatec's instructions are explicit that you seal between the back plate and the wall surface, and the wet rating leans on it.
