Is 1,500 lumens bright enough for an outdoor wall light?
For a doorway, a stairwell landing or a walkway, yes. 1,500 lumens on a 40 degree beam drops a controlled pool of light on the surface below rather than spraying it sideways. Mount it at 8 to 10 feet and it covers the approach without throwing glare into a neighbour's window. Lighting a loading bay or a parking area is a different job, and it needs the 30W body or a wall pack instead.
Do I need an electrician to install an outdoor wall light?
A hard-wired exterior fixture is electrical work, so most Canadian jurisdictions want a licensed electrician on it. The install itself is quick. A mounting unit screws to the junction box, the ground wire lands on the preinstalled green ground screw, hot and neutral and ground join with the supplied wire nuts, then the fixture bolts onto the mounting unit. The junction box isn't in the box.
What's the difference between IP65 and a wet location listing?
IP65 describes how well the housing keeps dust and water out. The cETLus wet location listing is what an inspector accepts for an uncovered exterior wall. This fixture carries both, which matters on a submittal where "weatherproof" on its own won't clear review.
What the installer needs to supply
Sealing glue between the back plate and the wall mounting surface is required to stop water getting in, and it isn't supplied. Sealing tape and the junction box aren't either. Budget for all three. Operating position is vertical, and the fixture runs from -40F to 122F, so a Prairie winter won't bother it.
