Product Details

The Mini Step LED Light is a 2" square recessed step light for indoor stairs, corridors and cabinet toe-kicks. It runs on low-voltage DC 12V, and the driver is ordered separately. One watt gives you 20 lumens at 5000K, CRI above 80, and a 60 degree beam. Rated 50,000 hours. One-piece die-cast aluminum trim and heat sink, cETL listed for damp locations at IP20, in black, white or brushed nickel. Three year warranty.

How do you light up indoor steps?

Recess a low-output fixture into the wall beside the treads so light washes down across each step edge. This one does that at 20 lumens. The lens sits deep inside the trim, so the edge reads clearly without a bright spot in anyone's eye line. Mounting height and spacing aren't fixed by the manual, so set those on site.

Does it need a separate driver?

Yes, and it isn't in the box. The manual is direct: connect a driver, not provided, to convert AC120V to DC 12V. Each unit ships as the lamp body with a 310 mm lead wire and an installation sheet. Size the 12V supply for the full run, then put the transformer on the same order.

Are step lights worth it on a stairwell?

Poor stair lighting is a fall risk, which is why step lights show up in multi-residential, seniors housing and institutional specs. At 1W each they cost almost nothing to run overnight, and that's where the 50,000 hour rating earns its keep. A whole flight draws about what one night light does.

What size hole does it need?

Cut 1-5/16" (33 mm). The body sits 1-13/32" (36 mm) behind the finished surface, and the square trim covers 1-31/32" (50 mm). Spring clips hold it, so there's no screw or mud ring. Run the wire before the wall closes. The manual says to fix locations before wall construction starts.

Where you can and can't install it

Indoor only. The manual rates it for indoor use and the spec sheet lists IP20. The cETL damp-location listing covers humid indoor spots like a covered stairwell or a bathroom, not anywhere exposed to rain or spray. Range is -20°C to 40°C. It isn't dimmable, so specify it where a fixed low level suits. For the cut-out drawing, the four-step install sequence and the warranty terms, open the Manual (PDF) in the Related documents panel, and grab the IES file if your designer needs photometric distribution for a stairwell layout.
