What are the requirements for exit signage in Canada?
Green and white, with a graphic symbol matching ISO 7010. Ontario's Building Code (Art. 3.4.5.1) requires one wherever the exit serves a building over 2 storeys, an occupant load above 150, or a floor area with a fire escape in the egress route. Internally illuminated signs must stay lit continuously, so never put one on a dimmer. This unit ships three pictograms, so the installer picks direction on site rather than ordering a part number per door.
How long does an exit sign have to stay lit in a power failure?
Between 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the building. OBC Art. 3.2.7.4 sets 2 hours for high buildings, 1 hour for Group B occupancies and retirement homes, 30 minutes for everything else. Surface wall, ceiling or end mounting, each with its own sequence in the manual. Indoor use only per the manual, so read the damp rating as covered and heated, not exterior. The 0°C to 40°C range rules out unheated stairwells, parkades and vestibules. No remote head capacity on this model, so specify a combo unit if you need lamp heads on the same battery.
