The RIO Large is a wet location rated outdoor wall light with three E12 candelabra sockets, cleared for walls with no overhead cover.
Each socket takes 60W maximum on a 120V circuit, giving a 180W total lamp budget. The lantern stands 21.25 inches tall, 7.01 wide, and projects 8.83 inches on its up arm mount.
Matte black steel and tempered glass, cETLus listed by Intertek, rated to -30°C, 3 year warranty.
Can wet rated lights be used outdoors?
Yes, and wet location is the rating you want on an uncovered wall. Wet rated fixtures are built for direct exposure to rain, snow and ice. Damp rated ones only suit covered porches and soffits. The RIO Large carries a wet location rating and is cETLus listed by Intertek, so it can go on an exposed facade, a garage wall or an unsheltered entry. Its operating range runs from -30°C to 50°C, which covers a Canadian winter without a derate.
What waterproof rating should an outdoor wall light have?
For a wall mounted lantern, the UL location rating does the job an IP number does elsewhere. There are three grades. Dry, damp and wet, and wet is the only one cleared for direct rain. Votatec publishes the wet location listing for every RIO model, but the spec sheet doesn't carry an IP figure for the fixture body. Ask us first if your specification calls for one.
Three sockets, and the lamp choice stays yours
The fixture ships without bulbs, so you set output and colour temperature per project. Each of the three E12 candelabra sockets takes up to 60W, which puts the total lamp budget at 180W rather than the 60W a single socket allows. Candle shaped B lamps fit the compartment. Dimming depends entirely on the lamps you fit, because there's no driver in the fixture.
What you'll need on site
The junction box isn't included, and neither is sealing tape. Votatec's assembly instructions call for caulk between the back plate and the wall surface, which stops water tracking in behind the fixture. Mount it vertical, arm up. The box includes the mounting unit, rubber rings, ball nuts, mounting screws and wire nuts. At 4.1 kg it hangs off a standard box.
For the wiring sequence, the ground screw position and the caulking step, open the Manual (PDF) in the Related documents panel, and use the Spec sheet if you're matching this to a smaller Rio. Send us your unit count and the wall type, and we'll come back with a wholesale quote plus a wet location check for the site.
